Le Jour, La Nuit, Le Jour est le troisième album sous l’alias Le Flegmatic de Thomas Boudineau. Son titre est emprunté à un poème de Louise Bourgeois.
Ruines Nouvelles, son précédent disque (2019), a reçu un accueil singulièrement fort pour une aventure jusque là confidentielle : un single en playlist 3 mois sur France Inter et RTS LaPremière (Suisse), une deuxième Sélection FIP après celle pour le précédent disque Bouleversement Majeur (2017), une chronique fff mentionnant un « Poète apocalyptique de la France d’aujourd’hui » pour Télérama. Le Jour La Nuit Le Jour propose 9 chansons taillées dans un genre de strange blues au velours tranchant, un album à climats traversé par des questions dont son auteur semble ne pas vouloir connaître les réponses. La réalisation du disque a été confiée à Jean-Philippe Hauray, dont Le Flegmatic avait apprécié le travail d’écriture sonore pour Blind Delon et Kat Kross, et avec lequel il partage son amour pour Leonard Cohen et des albums de vieil homme torréfié de Bob Dylan (Time Out Of Mind...)
L’essentiel des prises et du mixage a été fait en deux sessions au cours de l'année 2021 dans une maison isolée de Vendée, à partir de quelques maquettes et pré-productions. L'objectif était de donner de la profondeur à ce qui était déjà crayonné, d’aller au coeur de la matière avec une attention particulière aux textures et aux atmosphères : boîtes à rythmes, guitares, orgues étranges, le tout passé dans des amplis à lampes et des reverbs spectrales.
Au final, les chansons du Flegmatic ont gagné en liberté et précision, et l’aventure, dans son ensemble, a gagné en épaisseur.
Le jour la nuit le jour est définitivement taillé pour installer durablement Le Flegmatic dans le paysage d’une chanson en français affranchie, qui joue avec les genres, avec cette parole singulière, troublante, et diablement attachante.

Ruines Nouvelles, his previous album (2019), received a particularly strong reception for an adventure that had been confidential until then: one hit single playlisted for 3 months on Radio France Inter (First French Radio!) and RTS LaPremière (Switzerland First radio too), a second FIP Selection after the first one for the previous album Bouleversement Majeur (2017), a dithyrambic review mentioning an "apocalyptic poet of today's France" for Télérama. Le Jour La Nuit Le Jour offers 9 songs cut in a kind of strange blues draped with sharp velvet, an album with climates crossed by questions whose author seems not to want to know the answers. The production of the disc was entrusted to Jean-Philippe Hauray, whose Le Flegmatic had appreciated the work of sound writing for Blind Delon and Katcross, and with whom he shares his love for Leonard Cohen and roasted old man albums by Bob Dylan (Time Out Of Mind...)
Most of the recording and mixing was done in two sessions during the year 2021 in an isolated house in Vendée (French West Coast region), from a few demos and pre-productions. The objective was to give depth to what was already sketched, to go to the heart of the material with particular attention to textures and atmospheres: drum machines, guitars, strange organs, all passed through tube amplifier and spectral reverbs.
In the end, Le Flegmatic songs achieved greater freedom and precision, and the whole adventure gained prominence.
Le jour la nuit le jour is definitely cut out to permanently install Le Flegmatic in the landscape of a liberated French Folk, which plays with genres, with this singular, disturbing, and devilishly endearing word.
